Bloomberg Associates (BA) is Bloomberg Philanthropies’ pro bono consulting service founded by Michael R. Bloomberg, the 108th Mayor of New York City and Founder of Bloomberg LP, as a philanthropic venture. We provide services to cities that help governments improve the quality of life of their citizens. BA works across nine (9) different focus areas: Cultural Assets Management, Marketing & Communications, Media and Digital Strategies, Municipal Integrity, Social Services, Sustainability, Transportation, Economic Development and Urban Planning, with teams that have deep subject matter expertise and experience in municipal government.
Position Description
The Fellow will conduct high-level research and analysis and develop client-facing deliverables on projects related to city decarbonization action. The Fellow’s role is likely to include data analysis, research, writing, and client engagement responsibilities. Projects may include:
- Providing best practice research, data collection/analysis, and program design support to the City of Bratislava to plan for the development of a municipal energy efficiency program – inventorying city property, identifying priority buildings for energy audits/energy savings interventions, assessing retrofit funding/financing approaches, developing an approach to upskill staff on energy management
- Supporting development and replication of a voluntary business energy efficiency support program, including in Bratislava and London – researching and developing deliverables to guide program design, identification of priority businesses/stakeholders to engage, and outreach strategy
- Conducting research to inform planning for the City of Lisbon’s Climate Fund and One Stop Shop for energy support – research on other city facilities and financing mechanisms, analysis of resident characteristics to target support, and input to develop awareness-raising and engagement approach
The Fellow would work about 15 to 20 hours a week. The Fellow would be on an initial 6-month contract. The Fellow would work remote but should be located in the New York metro area to attend periodic meetings at the Bloomberg Associates office. S/he will need to be a self-starter, highly organized, an excellent communicator and comfortable working with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research online and/or through interviews with stakeholders to inform deliverables
- Analyze data to diagnose problems and develop targeted solutions
- Distill data, research, and analysis into accessibly-written outputs and data visualizations
- Engage professionally with clients and other stakeholders to advance mayoral priority projects
Desired Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate degree; record of academic success
- Minimum of 2 years internship/professional experience
- A track record of carrying out independent research and producing client-ready deliverables
- Familiarity with national, state or city governments and sustainability efforts
- Strong experience in analyzing and visualizing data, including in Microsoft Excel, R, or Python
- High level of organization/attention to detail
- Familiarity with finance generally and green/municipal finance a plus
- Outstanding written and oral communication abilities including research, editing, and presentation development
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to a collegial, team-oriented workplace

Pay Range Per Hour: $25.50-$30
This role will be part-time, ranging from 15 – 20 hours per week.
The referenced pay range is based on the Company’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
