The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission is hiring 7 new positions this summer to join our planning and permitting teams. Planning Positions (Closing July 4)

Interested in being part of a dynamic team to advance regional and local sea level rise adaptation planning across the Bay Area? There are four open positions in the Planning Division focused on climate adaptation. These positions support implementation of BCDC’s Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP), an award-winning, first-of-its-kind plan that contains Guidelines for how local governments along the Bay shoreline must plan and prepare for sea level rise and coastal flood impacts.

  • 2 BCDC Senior Climate Adaptation Planners (Senior Environmental Scientists (Specialist)) – CalCareers (Perm), CalCareers (LT)

The Senior Climate Adaptation Planners (Senior Environmental Scientist Specialists) will serve as project managers to guide cities and counties as they prepare Subregional Shoreline Adaptation Plans consistent with the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP). They work on a range of policies and topics related to climate adaptation, environmental justice, ecosystem restoration, public access, housing and land use, and transportation, among others. 1 Permanent, 1 24-month Limited Term with potential to become permanent.

  • 1 BCDC Climate Adaptation Planner (Environmental Scientist) – CalCareers

The Climate Adaptation Planner (Environmental Scientist) will help lead the agency’s technical assistance program to deliver resources, tools, and outreach that advance emerging adaptation topics, policies, and challenges. They will also play a large role in supporting the development of compliant Subregional Plans. 24-month Limited Term with potential to become permanent.

  • 1 BCDC Climate Data Specialist (Research Data Specialist I) – CalCareers

The Climate Data Specialist (Research Data Specialist I) will lead the development, maintenance and enhancement of data tools related to sea level rise adaptation in the San Francisco Bay region. 24-month Limited Term with potential to become permanent.

Regulatory Positions (Closing July 10 and 11)

Interested in being part of a collaborative team that seeks to protect Bay resources while allowing for appropriate development, addressing rising seas, providing for public access to the Bay, supporting habitat restoration projects, and navigation safety across the Bay Area? There are three open positions in the Regulatory Division, one each in Shoreline Development, Bay Resources, and Sediment Management. The Shoreline Development and Bay Resources positions review and permit projects proposed both in San Francisco Bay and along its shoreline, including habitat-based projects, living shorelines, port facilities, office, commercial, and residential buildings, parks, and public trails. The Sediment Management position focuses on navigation dredging, mining, and ways to improve beneficial reuse of sediment for habitat and adaptation. All projects include sea level rise adaptation components and working cooperatively with stakeholders to create projects with the best outcome for the Bay.

  • 1 Shoreline Development Analyst (Coastal Program Analyst II) – CalCareers

The Shoreline Development Analyst works directly with members of the public and other agencies to communicate BCDC’s policies and permitting requirements. Projects range from smaller-scale residential, commercial, and industrial projects; to public parks and trail systems; and to large multi-faceted mixed-use projects. 24-month Limited Term with potential to become permanent..

  • 1 Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) – CalCareers

The Senior Environmental Scientist will perform a number of tasks including: pre-application coordination with project proponents; review of restoration and development project proposals to determine consistency with BCDC’s laws and policies; participation in meetings and negotiations; preparation of written correspondence, reports, permits, and recommendations and presentations to the Commission on projects and related topics of interest, strategic plans; and provide guidance to staff and applicants on habitat restoration, sea level rise adaptation, and other issues. 24-month Limited Term with potential to become permanent.

  • 1 Sediment Program Analyst (Environmental Scientist)CalCareers

The Sediment Program Analyst is responsible for reviewing and acting upon permit applications for dredging, sand mining, flood protection, habitat restoration, and contaminant remediation. Current efforts include implementing the recently completed Sediment for Wetland Adaptation Project’s Action Plan, sediment quality analysis, increasing beneficial reuse of dredged sediment, and sediment transport science. 24-month Limited Term with potential to become permanent.
