Chief of Staff

Assemblyperson is seeking a Chief of Staff to supervise, direct, and support staff members in their Legislative district. The team may include a Constituent Services Specialist, Legislative Aide and numerous interns. The Chief of Staff serves as a primary advisor to both Assemblypersons, acts as a representative of the Assemblypersons, and oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations, including preparing the Assemblypersons for committee.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

·         Manage the day-to-day functions of the district office, including the staff

·         Oversee both Assemblypersons’ legislative agenda, develop communications strategy, and manage constituent casework and scheduling

·         Assist Chairperson in developing legislative agenda for high-profile committee

·         Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, elected officials, state agencies, advocacy organizations, and other Legislative staff

·         Engage constituents through events, stakeholder meetings, and community outreach

·         Represent both the Assemblypersons at meetings and events, including with neighborhood stakeholders and special interest groups

·         Ensure that both Assemblypersons’ schedules are accurate and up-to-date

·         Work closely with the communications director or scheduler to ensure the Assemblypersons have all materials (talking points, background materials,

citations, driving directions, etc.) needed for each meeting and event

·         Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends

·         Other duties and responsibilities that the Assemblypersons assign

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

·         Possess very strong written and oral form communication, organizational, and analytical skills

·         Ability to pay careful attention to detail even with tight deadlines

·         Familiar with the legislative process and local district issues

·         Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner

·         Works well under pressure with the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities at once

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Office Suite, and social media platforms

·         Self-starter with exemplary judgment and political sensitivity

·         Written and verbal fluency in at least one non-English language is highly desired, but not required

Education and experience:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience is preferred.

Location:

The Assemblyperson’s primary office will be located within their legislative district. If you are only willing to commute daily to specific counties, please list those counties when you email your resume.

Physical demands:

The Chief of Staff must hold a valid driver’s license to attend events and will be required to assist in the physical set-up and preparation for special events and activities.

Pay: $50,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
