New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV) is a bi-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives. We are committed to and incorporate into all our work the goal of helping establish a just, inclusive, and equitable environmental future for New Jersey.

We have an exciting internship opportunity for a high-energy, multi-talented student who is looking for a chance to have their hands in politics and elections on the local and state level in New Jersey. The ideal Political & Elections Intern applicant can not only multi-task, but enjoys it the most when they are able to do a variety of activities and learn about diverse aspects of a job. In this role, you will have a rare chance to see the behind-the-scenes workings of campaign planning, candidate support, and the impact of advocacy in elections – and do it at an exciting, energetic organization that is making a difference in the fight against global climate change.

This is a part-time paid internship from July – December, 2024.

Primary Responsibilities – Political & Elections:

  • Support New Jersey LCV’s election work and support a broader political program
  • Gain an understanding of electoral campaign plans and assist with the identification of campaign endorsement targets; work on data collection and analysis, including district and voter data, candidate information and research; support local and State candidate relationships and learn about the selection process that focuses on helping elect strong leaders who champion the environment and our values.
  • Work across teams to ensure our election work supports broader organizational goals related to diversity, equity and inclusion, and apply a racial justice lens to all efforts undertaken.
  • Experience organizational electoral efforts like Voter Registration, GOTV, or other bi-partisan programs.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director, Policy or designee to support organization’s long and short-term political plans, supporting effective political strategies, legislative goals and power-building initiatives.
  • Develop materials to bring to donor and funder meetings
  • Help research policy items that will be key election issues.
  • Attend and assist in planning political fundraising events to help increase fundraising growth
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral, written communication, and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Personable, dependable team player
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and collaboratively; and to manage short-and long-term deadlines
  • Ability to work remotely using your own phone and computer
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, Google Apps, MS Office, and design programs
  • Commitment to environmental conservation, or interest in political work preferred

Compensation: Part-time internships are paid, and we are happy to work with interns for college credit. Compensation is $15 an hour, for 15 hours/week. Letters of recommendation are available upon request.

How to Apply: The candidate must have reliable transportation, a cell phone, and a computer for the position. Interns will work remotely, as well as come to our office in Hamilton New Jersey (ideally) at least once a week, and attend events as needed.
