Overview
The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is currently looking for a graduate student to work as a Student Research Assistant under the supervision of Prof Noland, Smart, and Ralph. The student research assistant will assist with various data compilation tasks, analysis of data, and interpretation of the analysis. We are specifically seeking a research assistant with interest in induced travel analysis and climate change.
The position is part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during the academic year and full-time over the summer. The current work will mainly be over the summer, but opportunities may arise for additional work during the academic year.
Activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Analysis of the Rutgers University climate change survey data, including summary statistics, selected cross-tabulations, and preparation of graphics. Familiarity with Stata and/or R is required.
- Assist with collecting data from state DOTs for an NCHRP funded project that will examine induced travel case studies. This will require the ability to merge data sets and conduct statistical analysis.
- Additional project work on other tasks, as needed.
Required skills:
- Experience working with Stata and/or R to compile data sets and conduct analysis.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques and willingness to learn new techniques as needed.
- Ability to summarize analysis graphically in Excel or other packages.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Preferred skills:
- Interest and/or knowledge of transportation-related issues and practices, and a willingness to research state-of-the-art trends, emerging technologies, innovative practices, and recently completed research focused on addressing current transportation problems and needs.
This work will also involve occasional meetings with other research teams as part of the overall project. While remote work is possible, we will also have in-person meetings.
