Developing, analyzing, and disseminating labor market and demographic data.

Preparing reports for the State and Federal government agencies that fund Labor’s workforce and worker benefit programs.

Providing performance measurements, business intelligence, and evaluation services that promote the continuous

improvement of Labor programs.

Developing user-centric digital tools to guide New Jerseyans’ career planning activities.

Overseeing the review and approval of NJ’s private career schools and maintaining the Eligible Training Provider List; and

Serving as the data backbone for strategic enforcement and compliance activities undertaken by Labor’s worker protection programs.

About the Role:

The Division of Workforce Research and Analytics (WRA) has one vacancy for an Analyst Trainee. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to develop skills in reviewing and analyzing data, preparing reports and dashboards, and supporting the development of business requirements for programming and generating management information and performance reports.

Under the direction of a supervisor within ORI-WRA, the trainee will support multiple program areas within the New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) and partner programs. The analyst trainee will:

Receive training in identifying information, tools, and research methods required for project completion.

Learn to review, interpret, and evaluate data or other information to support the development of detailed and statistical

and hoc reports, as well as regular weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

Assist in the testing of new or revised business intelligence tools and systems.

Support the development and maintenance of a well-documented, accessible archive of program source code for all reports.

Facilitate the regular extraction and transfer of data files for program reporting purposes.

Prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for improvements.

Maintain records and files in secure NJDOL storage environment, in support of WRA objectives and data stewardship responsibilities.

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester-hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Four (4) years of professional experience relevant to the position.

NOTE: Please refer to the Advancement section located at the bottom of this title specification for a comprehensive list of approved journeyman titles connected to this trainee title. Experience must be related to the journeyman title associated with the position.

OR

Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

NOTE: “Professional experience” refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession’s concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.
