Job Description:

A New Jersey-based consulting firm seeks a New Jersey Licensed Professional Planner with an urban/regional/community planning background for municipal planning practice. Successful candidates shall possess a demonstrated knowledge of the theories, practices, and principles of state, municipal, and regional planning, as well as a working knowledge of the issues associated with growth, population, traffic and transportation, housing, utilities, and other conditions related to the changing character of urban, suburban, and rural areas.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates shall possess a demonstrated ability to use analytical methods and tools to collect, organize, interpret, and use land use, statistical, and other information.

·       Well-developed knowledge of planning principles and practices

·       In-depth understanding of and experience with the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law, Local Redevelopment & Housing Law, and state and national best practices.

·        Proficiency in the NJ affordable housing process, including the preparation of housing plans and fair share plans.

·       Demonstrated ability to use analytical methods and tools to collect, organize, interpret, and use land use, statistical, and other information.

·       Superior written and oral communication and presentation skills are required.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

·       Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products is preferred but not required.

·       Ability to critically analyze ordinances and codes and draft revisions.

·       Capability to identify community problems, develop strategies, and promote economic and community development.

·       Knowledge of group facilitation and public engagement techniques.

·       Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects within deadlines.

Education, Experience & License Requirements:

·       A valid New Jersey Professional Planner’s License is required.

·       Experience in county, municipal, or state planning.

·       An AICP Certificate from the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred but not required. Related experience is required.

·       Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation for field visits and client meetings

Responsibilities:

Assignments will include municipal and private planning work, including master planning, redevelopment planning, affordable housing, and other related assignments.

Examples include:

·       Prepare, amend, and reexamine municipal and master plans and various elements thereof

·       Prepare development review letters for various municipal development applications and planning reports for private development clients

·       Review, evaluate, and recommend zoning ordinance amendments and rezonings

·       Prepare and update Housing Element and Fair Share Plans

·       Conduct redevelopment investigations and draft redevelopment plans and amendments thereto

·       Draft ordinances and regulations relating to development controls

·       Attend evening meetings and public presentations as a municipal client representative or on behalf of private development clients

·       Conduct various research tasks as requested by municipal and private clients

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

·       Occasional fieldwork with exposure to outside weather conditions

·       Frequent and prolonged computer use

·       Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
