Overview

NCLC is seeking a part-time remote Communications Assistant to expand its social media presence and support its community-based initiatives. This is an hourly, paid position for a Rutgers student; up to 20 hours will be required weekly.

Position Duties

Social Media

  • Share relevant, engaging, attractive, and timely content on NCLC’s social media platforms several times a week (original text, photos, video, and reposting of relevant news/content)
  • Research and respond to all social media inquiries in a timely fashion, regularly communicate with NCLC partners and audience
  • Provide ideas and insight for ways to engage the audience, support the development of social media campaigns

Event Coordination

  • Assist Communications Manager and other staff to coordinate community-based college knowledge events and other events as needed
  • Prepare marketing materials (flyers, Facebook events), track and record RSVPs
  • Attend NCLC events and programs to assist with on-site and virtual coordination as well as obtain social media content, like photos and video (requires hours after 5pm, occasionally)

Other

  • Writing tasks, including proofreading/editing
  • Other relevant tasks as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field
  • Graduate students pursuing a degree in related field are encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, including how to utilize analytics tools (familiarity with other platforms a plus)
  • Interest in and familiarity with education and Newark, ability to stay up-to-date on current events locally and nationally in education
  • Prior experience creating digital content a plus (e.g., video and photo editing, graphic design, and animated graphics development)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, must have good grammar in writing
  • Detail oriented, excellent time management skills
  • Creativity
