Reporting to the Director of Data Center Administration, the Data Analyst Intern is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of ad-hoc business and performance reporting for the Division of Housing and Community Resources (DHCR) within the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. This includes the use of programming/query languages such as R, SQL or Python, with a strong emphasis on R programming for analyzing, cleaning and visualizing data.

The Data Analyst Intern will be instrumental in the successful implementation and enhancement of division-wide data reporting and management practices. This includes developing comprehensive reports and dashboards that support all DHCR programs and initiatives as well as creating and maintaining detailed data management documentation. The
Data Analyst Intern will focus on ensuring that these practices not only meet current analytical needs but also adhere to best practices in data management, thereby facilitating effective data use across the division.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the design and development of comprehensive reports and dashboards to aid in monitoring, decision-making, and reporting.
• Assist in the implementation of data management best practices and data governance standards across all DHCR programs.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure data practices align with regulatory standards and facilitate easy access and analysis.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Political Science or a related field. Current students with demonstrated experience will also be considered.
• Entry-level experience with SQL, R, Python or SPSS experience is required.
• Experience with Git and GitHub is required.
• Strong understanding of data structures, database systems, and data analysis tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Experience or strong interest in public policy or social science research is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Entry-level experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI experience is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
