Project Responsibilities

Assist staff in the Bus Service Planning Section of the Operations Planning Division in day-to-day bus planning activities. Responsibilities include performing necessary data and geographic analyses. Responsibilities could include supporting NYCT’s Bus Network Redesign program. Some fieldwork is required.

Qualification Background

Ability to use G.I.S.
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Graduate student preferred but undergraduate student will be considered; coursework in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or Architecture or a related field.

Overview of Department

The Operations Planning Division supports NYC Transits subway and bus operations by:
– Determining when, where, and how frequently subway and bus service should operate.
– Analyzing ridership data levels to determine whether NYC Transit is operating enough service or too much service to meet the demand on any given route.
– Analyzing service performance to determine the quality of NYC Transits subway and bus operations.
– Working closely with the Departments of Subways and Buses and other MTA agencies; the City of New York; and outside agencies/companies to ensure that public and private rehabilitation/reconstruction plans consider the needs of NYC Transit and its customers.
