MTA’s Trainee Program is offering three full time, salaried + full benefits positions in the Capital Strategy, Long Range Planning, or Transit-Oriented Development groups within the MTA Construction & Development Agency. Interested candidates need at least a 4-year bachelor’s degree and demonstrated interest, but planning skills and interest certainly help.

Long Range Planning looks at long term ridership trends both to contribute to MTA’s capital strategy and to explore where system growth or modification may be most strategic. Ideal candidates likely have skills in statistical analysis, ridership modeling, and transportation planning/research.

Capital Strategy is a group that helps develop the 20-year needs assessment and works to prioritize and communicate MTA capital needs to internal stakeholders and the public. This work contributes to 5-year MTA Capital Plans. Ideal candidates likely have data analysis, GIS, and graphic communications skills.

Transit-Oriented Development is a real estate planning team that works to unlock NYCT, TBTA, MNR, and LIRR property for new mixed-used housing development and to negotiate privately funded improvements to the NYCT system, most commonly via New York City’s Zoning for Accessibility Program. Ideal candidates likely have a background/interest in real estate development, public private partnerships, and urban design/land use planning.
