The Land Conservancy has a Planning Fellowship opportunity which is part-time, remote, and you can work the hours that fits best for you. Having some natural resource background, good research skills, and InDesign experience is a plus.

The Land Conservancy of New Jersey’s Fellowship Program offers graduate students the opportunity to work with our staff for one year as they are immersed in the field of conservation planning and land preservation.

Seeking recent college graduates; master’s degree preferred. Position is part-time, up to 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible; employees, work remotely and are provided a laptop. Salary is $17 per hour in 2024 plus quarterly incentives of $250 ($750 total). Up to 5 days sick/personal time (40 hours).

Candidates will apply their technical skills and educational experience to learn the following:

  • Planning for preservation: Creative analysis based on scientific methods for identifying land suitable for preservation, with an emphasis on local and regional conservation priorities.
  • Mapping and design: Learn and use ArcGIS, Google Maps, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite to visualize connections between landscapes, conservation, and development.

  • Public outreach: Develop presentations and outreach materials using Canva and other tools to share information in a format that is understandable and relatable to local residents.

  • Types of projects: Environmental inventories, flood risk analysis, planning for open space, trend analysis, eligibility of farmland for preservation, GIS modeling for conservation priorities, environmental justice and overburdened communities data, and analysis of census data.

  • Fieldwork: Candidates who live within driving distance of the office have the opportunity to visit project sites, meet with local officials, and represent TLCNJ when touring local municipalities.
