The League of Women Voters of New Jersey, a nonpartisan political nonprofit, works to empower voters and defend democracy. Founded over 100 years ago, we make democracy work by protecting voting rights and encouraging robust participation. We envision a people-powered democracy actively dismantling systemic racism and removing all barriers to full participation in our government.

Position Summary: The Policy Analyst will play a crucial role in advancing the League’s efforts on voting rights and democracy reform by conducting research and supporting advocacy campaigns that promote civic participation and equitable representation in New Jersey.
Reporting to the Director of Democracy, the Analyst will assist in campaign planning, research, partner engagement, and advocacy on various policies, including Census 2030, redistricting, election protection, good government practices, campaign finance reform, and the expansion of voting rights. This position involves a combination of policy research, grassroot mobilization, and strategic execution.

Goals and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
50% Research and Policy Analysis
• Conduct legislative research and policy analysis to inform advocacy positions and produce background materials, fact sheets, policy briefs, and testimony.
• Monitor and evaluate state and federal legislation impacting voting rights, government transparency, campaign finance reform, and broader democracy initiatives.
• Collaborate with communications staff to draft talking points, op-eds, and digital content for democracy-focused campaigns, leveraging data-driven insights and fact-based research.
• Identify emerging opportunities and threats to democracy in New Jersey and propose proactive responses.

40% Strategic Advocacy and Campaigns
• Support the planning and execution of the League’s democracy reform campaigns, including Census 2030, redistricting, and voting rights.
• Coordinate campaign strategy with the Director of Democracy, including goal setting, timelines, and evaluation of campaign outcomes.
• Facilitate, build and strengthen relationships with coalition partners and community organizations to advance the League’s democracy policy campaigns.
• Assist with organizing advocacy days, press conferences, and community education events to increase civic participation and awareness.
• Serve as a representative of the League at public forums, community events, and training sessions. Deliver testimony before legislators and committees in Trenton to advance organizational priorities.

10% Community Organizing and Outreach
• Collaborate with team members to conduct outreach and engage League chapters in policy and advocacy initiatives, ensuring strong member participation and a visible League impact.
• Support on-the-ground advocacy and mobilization efforts for key support campaigns related to immigration, climate justice, housing, education, and racial justice.

Qualifications:
• A strong commitment to the League of Women Voters’ mission and values, including unwavering dedication to racial, social, and economic justice and adherence to the League’s nonpartisan policy.
• Demonstrated knowledge of voting rights and good government policy, with expertise in redistricting and Census.
• Experience in diverse coalition work, partner engagement, and facilitating collaborative campaigns.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in community organizing, government relations, legislative advocacy, or coalition building.
• Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex policy information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and persuasive writing.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting campaign needs.
• Strategic thinker who thrives in both collaborative and independent work environments.
• Commitment to racial, social, and economic justice and inclusive organizing practices.

Compensation and Benefits: The Policy Analyst is a full-time position and reports to the Director of Democracy. The salary range is $60,000 – $65,000. This is a hybrid position, and applicants can expect approximately 2 days a week on-site at our Trenton, NJ office or in the field. The position involves travel during and outside regular business hours and requires evening and weekend work as needed.
