The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) at the Edward J. Bloustein School School of Planning and Public Policy is currently looking for a Research Assistant. The research assistant will assist with data collection, management, and analysis associated with the NJ TRANSIT sponsored NJ Transit Friendly Data Application (transitfriendlydata.org). The data application allows users to map, report, and download a range of land use, travel, public transit, demographic, and real estate development data. The data available in the application are useful to elected officials, community and economic development professionals, real estate developers, land use planners, transit service planners, and others engaged in the land use and transportation planning process.


Research Assistant responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

· Collecting, organizing, and analyzing municipal planning board and zoning board of adjustment development approval documents.

· Using data capture worksheets to populate the data application local development approval database.

· Analyzing aerial imagery via online tools to determine the construction status of approved developments.

· Analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of New Jersey’s Transit Village Program.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

· Excellent data management skills.

· Proficiency using Microsoft Excel.

· Knowledge of GIS preferred.

· Some in-state travel may be required. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are also preferred.

Hours and compensation: This position works up to 20 per week. Compensation will be based on previous experience and number of hours worked.
