Overview

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a GIS Technician for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). GIS Services provides critical support to university planning and operations by creating, maintaining, and making available geospatial information pertaining to the university’s physical footprint, infrastructure, and resources.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Under the guidance and direction of the Manager of GIS Services, this position is responsible for a variety of tasks including collecting, editing, analyzing, and auditing geospatial data.
  • Supports the accuracy and reliability of the university’s web-based map application.
  • Supports division planning efforts by creating clear, accurate, and informative maps and developing high-quality graphics.
  • Converts data between software such as CAD to GIS or GIS to CAD using pre-developed tools.
  • Uses Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to collect data and using Microsoft Excel and Access to create databases.

These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
