Overview
Position
Dr. Derek DeLia, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Bloustein School, is a Health Economist with research interests in healthcare payment and delivery reform; Medicaid policy; the economics of hospitals and health centers; emergency medical care; healthcare access among the poor, uninsured, and minorities; social determinants of health; childhood obesity and the built environment; health insurance coverage; performance measurement in Accountable Care Organizations (ACO’s); healthcare markets; and market factors that affect access to limb salvage procedures for patients with severe chronic wounds.
Dr. DeLia seeks a part-time Student Research Assistant to ideally begin in January to provide assistance on various research, funding application, and course planning tasks. These tasks will be focused on health economics, public health, health policy, health administration, and related fields.
Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in a health, social science, or related field. Coursework and/or work experience in gathering and summarizing scientific research as well as gathering and explaining quantitative information. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience conducting or assisting with research and presentation tasks. Experience conducting statistical analysis with statistical software favored but not essential.
Expectations
Be available for 7.5-12.5 hours of work per week. Work collaboratively or independently as needed with routine oversight and guidance. Display careful attention to detail. Communicate regularly on progress and any barriers to progress. Must have personal computer or laptop with standard Microsoft software and internet connection. Most work can be done remotely with check-ins done in person or via Zoom.
Outcomes
Repositories of literature and accompanying summaries. Formatted quantitative datafiles prepared for analysis. Data collection tools to be used in grant applications and research development. Formatted Power Point slides and graphics to be used in research and teaching products.
