Responsibilities We are seeking a part-time intern to join Sam Schwartz’s transportation planning group in our New York City office.  The candidate will join a team of consultants (planners, graphic designers, data analysts, and transportation engineers) and contribute to a variety of urban mobility projects such as neighborhood and corridor studies, bicycle/pedestrian/micromobility plans, curbside management and freight, transit plans, data analytics, and other types of projects in the New York City region and around the country. Work performed as part of this internship will likely include developing maps, presentations, and graphics; research; writing; conducting field work; and preparing quantitative analyses, in addition to the occasional administrative task. Candidates should have a demonstrable interest in transportation planning and/or design, and ideally have some related work and/or school experience. Qualifications In addition, candidates should:

  • Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s (already having completed Sophomore year) or master’s degree program in urban planning
  • Have demonstrated intermediate or advanced (not introductory) experience with Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Possess knowledge of planning and urban design concepts and an understanding of transportation planning concepts and methodology
  • Have strong research and analytical experience
  • Be willing to support the transportation planning group in various capacities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Experiences with modeling in GIS, Sketchup, drafting in AutoCAD, animating in After Effects, and/or video editing in Premiere Pro are a plus
  • Experience with coding languages (Python, R, Java) is a plus

Job duties may include:

  • Assisting with development of detailed reports and presentation
  • Developing thematic maps and infographics
  • Conducting research into various transportation planning topics and preparing written summaries
  • Analyzing complex data sets and preparing summary analyses
  • Participating in field work and data collection efforts
