Overview
About the State Policy Fellowship
The State Policy Fellowship is a two-year, full-time paid staff opportunity to develop in-depth policy expertise. The fellowship is a project of the State Priorities Partnership, a national network coordinated by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), which works with state partners, like NJPP, to drive policy change.
If placed at NJPP, the position will focus on state-level research and analysis on the impacts of state policy issues related either to health, economic security, or tax and budget on low-income residents and communities of color.
Fellows will work as research analysts and will:
Conduct in-depth research and data analysis on public policy issues aligned with NJPP’s priorities (e.g., tax, labor, healthcare, etc.).
Draft reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, and blog posts that translate complex research into accessible and actionable content for diverse audiences.
Monitor and analyze legislative developments, state budgets, and policy proposals to inform NJPP’s advocacy efforts.
Develop policy recommendations that advance NJPP’s goals and mission.
Represent NJPP at legislative hearings, coalition meetings, and public forums, articulating NJPP’s research and recommendations to policymakers, funders, and stakeholders.
Engage with media, partners, and the public as an expert in NJPP’s research areas, providing clear and compelling analysis.
Salary and Benefits
NJPP recognizes the high cost of living in New Jersey and offers an annual salary of up to $75,000, exceeding the $50,000 salary listed by CBPP. Fellows are also eligible for a comprehensive, fully employer-paid benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage. Additional benefits include generous paid time off and a 401(k) match after 90 days of employment.
