Position Summary
NJ TRANSIT is looking to fill the vacant position of Strategic Fleet Analyst in the new Planning section in the Equipment Design & Engineering division. This position will assist the Manager in analyzing, researching, and efficiently strategizing rail and bus rolling stock procurements, retirements, and reliability programs. This position will also research regulatory compliance and support the development of cost projections for rolling stock fleet activities.
Responsibilities
- Collects and analyzes research and equipment data and provides insight relating to rolling stock asset condition. Provides information for enhancing fleet reliability through procurement and reliability programs.
- Assists in the research of new technologies that can be used to enhance rolling stock operations, improve customer experience, and help provide a path to a more sustainable rolling stock fleet.
- Compiles information that will be used in formulating and preparing strategic plans, budgets, and schedules for assigned rolling stock projects. Maintains familiarity with constantly changing federal/state policies and regulations.
- Collaborates with Operations departments to collect information that will be used to efficiently and strategically plan the procurement, retirement, and reliability programs of NJ TRANSIT rolling stock fleets.
- Drafts memos and letters, tracks open items, writes meeting minutes, and attends meetings.
- Provides insight to schedules and plans.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Transportation, Business Administration, or related field and two (2) years of experience in strategic planning and policy analysis, with demonstrable knowledge and experience with transportation projects and programs.
- Experience with the North American transportation industry, especially with inter-urban and densely populated areas, is also desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as technical knowledge and skills are required.
- MS Office knowledge is required, as well as online communications and video conference software such as Microsoft Teams, is also required.
- Ability to climb on/off rolling stock to conduct research and collect data, bend, kneel, crouch, and walk around for an extended period of time.
