Located about 15 miles outside of Washington D.C., Vienna is a vibrant community that maintains its distinctive small-town friendliness, spirit and widely cherished traditional values, in no small part due to the work and vision of the Planning and Zoning Department. The Principal Planner performs and manages professional planning projects, research and analysis. Because the department is small, the Principal Planner will be involved in a wide variety of initiatives and programs, including helping to update the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and managing interesting development applications. The ideal candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience in working collaboratively with the public and other staff, and strong technical planning skills.
To apply, you must have a Bachelor’s Degree and four years of progressively responsible relevant experience; or a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning or related field, plus two years of relevant experience.
