Overview

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Transportation Planner for employment in the Clifton, NJ office. Our people bring deep industry knowledge to help you succeed.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations.
  • Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans and regulations.
  • Conducts technical analysis to support transportation and environmental planning studies, mobile source air quality conformity determinations, and long-range plans.
  • Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies.
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data and occupancy rates.
  • Assists in evaluating re-zonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposals.
  • Coordinates community review of public and private development projects.
  • Provides information to the public regarding development regulations.
  • Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues.
  • Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments.
  • Interprets and applies applicable government codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
  • Conducts data analysis for large data sets, conducts data preparations for GIS and analytical software.
  • Utilizes GIS to produce maps and tables of data to support of transportation and land use analysis.
  • Assists with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plan, transportation plan and land development regulations.
  • Conducts extensive research in specific or general project areas.
  • Writes and presents formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondence.
  • Identifies community problems, issues and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning.
  • Develops long range plans for communities with common developmental issues.
  • Develops strategies to promote economic and community development, or efficient land use consistent with community goals.
  • Evaluates adequacy of community facilities in meeting current and projected needs.
  • Recommends priorities, schedules and funding sources to implement public improvements plan.
  • Prepares administrative, technical, or statistical reports on traffic-operations, accidents, safety and transportation system performance measures.
  • Writes/updates software code and develops new features, tests and debugs application programs.
  • Modifies applications from detailed specifications to solve problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
  • Conducts technical analysis to support transportation and environmental planning studies, mobile source air quality conformity determinations, and long-range plans.

This position is expected to begin in July 2022.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Engineering or another related field required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering.
  • Transportation Experience
  • 1 year of related experience
  • Writes/updates software codes related to transportation analysis
