Overview
The Planning Division of the Housing & Economic Development Department for the City of Trenton is currently seeking a bright and enthusiastic intern to work full- or part-time with staff on a variety of planning projects this summer from June 2 (or ASAP) through August 31, 2025. The successful candidate will gain valuable insight and practical experience while refining their educational and career path. The intern will provide planning assistance on a variety of assignments, including but not limited to:
– Providing support to a team of city planners by updating city website records, GIS database, and Microsoft Access records
– Assisting staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects
– Creating and organizing meeting packets for land use boards and committees
– Conducting fieldwork, collecting parcel data, and researching land records
– Assisting planning staff at professional meetings
– Presenting report findings at community meetings
– Performing basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and customer service
Requirements:
– Open to all current Rutgers University students, with Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy students preferred.
– Basic understanding of planning principles
– Proficiency in computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, ArcGIS, and online applications
– Strong written and oral communication skills
– Solid research and analytical skills
– Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
– Ability to work effectively in a team environment
– Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of planning projects
Compensation:
Hourly rate will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience
