to support the RSS-DC cohort as the RSS-DC Summer Program Graduate Intern.
Background: As part of the RSS-DC provides nine-week summer internship experiences to Rutgers University undergraduate students at government offices and non-profit organizations while expanding their knowledge and skills to be engaged citizens. RSS-DC program participants receive a stipend, housing, and a free three-credit course while interning with a public service office or organization. RSS-DC also regularly hosts events with DC-based Rutgers alumni, organizes a large summer reception, and facilitates other events for RSS-DC students over the course of the summer.
The RSS-DC Summer Program Graduate Intern position will run from May 18 to August 3, 2026. Beginning as a remote position in mid-May, the RSS-DC Summer Program Graduate Intern will become in-person in Washington, DC starting Friday, May 29. The compensation for the entire 11-week internship is $5,000 and complimentary housing. This will be a part-time internship, with an expected weekly commitment of roughly 25 hours/week. The RSS-DC Summer Program Graduate Intern reports to the Senior Program Coordinator for RSS-DC. RSS-DC is managed by the Rutgers Office of Federal Relations.
The RSS-DC Summer Program Graduate Intern will enhance the RSS-DC experience of the students by living in residence with the cohort and serving as a mentor. Through planned programs and activities (including professional development, community service, and cohort bonding), 1:1s and/or group mentoring, and roommate disagreement facilitation, the Summer Program Graduate Intern works to provide a unique and academically supportive living-learning experience for the cohort.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assist in planning and executing summer events for the RSS-DC cohort and other Rutgers interns in DC this summer. Categories of events include professional development events with local alumni, community service events through DC, and cohort bonding events
• Administrative tasks such as scheduling events with stakeholders and partners; engaging in alumni outreach; and researching and distributing weekly DC events applicable to RSS-DC cohort members, including congressional hearings and other webinars
• Maintain and oversee wellness of 2026 RSS-DC cohort by providing emotional and logistical support
• Conduct “drop-in” hours twice a week to build and maintain relationships with cohort and to address cohort or roommate disputes
• Extend administrative support to Office of Federal Relations staff as needed

• Be enrolled in a graduate program at Rutgers University
• Minimum GPA 3.0
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and self-motivated
• Passion for event planning
• Facilitation and mediation skills
• Possess a great attitude/work ethic, be energetic, articulate, and personable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail required
• Able to work as part of a team
• Must be returning to Rutgers as a graduate student for Fall 2026
• Be enrolled in a graduate program at Rutgers University
