Overview

Job Summary 

Lafayette Square is seeking an associate, policy & data analytics to support the development of its place-based analytical tools, including launching a new policy analysis and innovation platform at the Lafayette Square Institute. This platform will focus on educating government policy and rules makers on how best to catalyze private investment to advance the national interest and to build economic security for American workers in overlooked places. This is an opportunity to directly support the nonprofit’s leadership team in crafting and implementing strategic initiatives across topics such as industrial strategy, job quality, employee ownership, and others. The Associate will also manage the day-to-day analytical insights that inform policy analysis and development.  

Responsibilities 

Data Analysis and Reporting 

  • Serve as the point person for the Lafayette Square Institute on data analytics requests and visualizations in partnership with the Lafayette Square technology team.  
  • Collaborate with the technology team to collect, clean, and analyze data in response to identified use cases. 
  • Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights. 
  • Create compelling fact-based narratives and visualizations from research and analysis. 

Policy Responsibilities 

  • Brief Lafayette Square leadership with data-driven insights for external engagements with federal policymakers, executive branch officials, and other nongovernmental partners.
  • Provide operational and logistics support for in-person and virtual convenings that amplify analytical insights. 
  • Support fundraising operations for data and technology-related funding requests, including grant proposals and other administrative tasks as needed. 

 Knowledge Management and Thought Leadership 

  • Monitor new and existing empirical research trends from academic and industry sources to inform Lafayette Square Foundation policy insights. 
  • Source thought leaders and other influential voices on priority topics and support relationship and partnership development. 
  • Contribute data-driven analysis to written content, including policy white papers, blog posts, and social media, with opportunities for sole authorship over time. 

 Requirements 

  • Hybrid/flexible (Washington, DC-based a plus) 
  • 1 to 3 years of experience, ideally, with 2+ years of experience related to data-driven analysis and advocacy of public policy (government/Hill, think tank, management consulting, and/or financial services experience is a plus) 
  • Demonstrated ability working with data analytics and data visualization techniques, e.g., Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, and Tableau (familiarity with programming tools such as SPSS, Stata, Python, or R is a plus) 
  • Possession of strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong comfort level building new processes and organizational practices from scratch and iterating over time (e.g., a “start-up” environment) 
  • Intellectual curiosity on issues related to U.S. industrial strategy, economic development, and job quality.  
  • Experience synthesizing legislation, regulations, and/or empirical research a plus. 
  • Must be willing to operate in a nonpartisan environment and actively build strong relationships across the political and ideological spectrum. 

Compensation

$100,000 – $150,000 depending on experience
