JOB SUMMARY:

Assists the Borough Administrator with the day-to-day operations of the Borough with the goal of enhancing the provision of services to residents and businesses and making Highland Park a great place to work. This individual will have a diverse portfolio and work collaboratively with all departments on a wide variety of programs and initiatives, including sustainability projects,  employee training and wellness efforts, grant writing and management, and communications. The Assistant Borough Administrator will contribute to the preparation of the municipal and utility budgets, represent the Borough at federal, state, and local meetings, and handle special projects as needed. The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $80,000.

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:

–       Assist the Borough Administrator (BA) with policy, planning, budgeting, strategy and operational issues, with an emphasis on sustainability, human resources, budgeting, and grants management.

–       Work with the BA, Borough Council, CFO and department heads to develop the municipal and utility budgets and capital improvement plan.

–       Respond to resident and constituent concerns.

–       Draft and update policies and procedures and create related explanatory memos.

–       Prepare and present agenda items at Borough Council meetings.

–       Develop content for website, email and social media outlets as needed.

–       Stay current on changes and trends in municipal law, management and administration, personnel, and labor relations.

–       Take on special projects as needed, including research, preparation of reports, and implementation of programs.

–       Apply for and administer grant applications.

–       Any other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:

–       College degree, preferably master’s degree,  in planning or public administration

–       Two years’ experience in municipal government

–       Above average computer skills

–       Ability to solve problems independently

–       Superb customer service skills

–       Strong business writing skills
