Overview
The Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey administers the Sustainable Jersey certification programs and is seeking a Program Manager to join our Policy and Planning team. This is an exciting opportunity to drive tangible change and create high-impact sustainability initiatives that directly support municipalities and schools across New Jersey.
Key responsibilities in this position are variable and may include bolstering local efforts in Complete and Green Streets initiatives, completing Sustainable Jersey Actions, assisting schools with tree planting initiatives, and advancing climate change planning and adaptation.
We’re looking for candidates with a passion for sustainability; strong research, writing, and communication skills; and experience in working at the local level on land-use planning, active transportation, climate resilience, stormwater and natural resource conservation and management.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Conducting research and developing guidance materials on sustainability policies and best practices.
- Providing technical assistance to municipalities and schools on Sustainable Jersey actions and related initiatives.
- Supporting projects related to implementing sustainability initiatives such as Complete and Green Streets and climate change adaptation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public policy, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience in local land-use planning, public policy, municipal government, or a similar field.
- Demonstrated experience in municipal government, sustainability or climate resilience.
- Strong research, writing and communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of municipal land-use planning, climate change impacts, and local resilience policies in New Jersey.
- Graduate degree or professional certification in planning or related field
- GIS skills
