Overview
Paid Research Internship for AI and Geospatial Data
We’re seeking a student developer at Rutgers University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to enhance NJFloodMapper (https://www.njfloodmapper.org/), a vital tool for visualizing flood risks in New Jersey. This 12-month project (July 2025–June 2026) involves building an AI-compatible API and a conversational AI assistant using Large Language Models such as GPT to make flood risk data accessible to the public. The student will work with scientists and stakeholders to develop, test, and refine these tools, contributing to a high-impact climate resilience initiative.
Ideal candidates are current Rutgers students with experience in Large Language Models and programming (e.g., Python, JavaScript). Knowledge of geospatial data or APIs is a plus. Compensation depends on seniority. Both undergrad and graduate students are welcome. To apply, send your resume and a brief cover letter highlighting relevant skills to Prof Roger Wang (rq.wang@rutgers.edu). Join us to create an innovative AI solution for climate-driven flooding challenges!
