Overview

GIS Services provides critical support to university planning and operations by maintaining the university’s statewide geospatial data. GIS Services also maintains the university’s publicly available campus map to support wayfinding for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The GIS Intern will support these efforts through field data collection using GPS or a mobile app, assistance with data maintenance/updates, and through the design of clear and informative maps. The GIS intern will gain experience reviewing and enhancing a wide range of datasets that the university maintains, such as parcels, utilities, transportation, buildings, and parking, among others. This internship will be focused on best practices for data maintenance and geodatabase design, static map products, and GIS analysis.

This internship will be based out of the Institutional Planning & Operations offices at 33 Knightsbridge Road in Piscataway, NJ. The internship will be up to 15 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, and up to 37.5 hours per week during the summer period. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Must be current Rutgers student (undergraduate or graduate)

– Experience using ArcPro, especially Editor tools

– Demonstrated experience in creating clear and informative maps.

– Solid understanding of cartography and map design

– Proficient in Microsoft Office

– Ability to work independently and coordinate with a team

Some experience ArcGIS Online
AutoCAD
GPS data collection
Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position will require both deskwork in an office environment and work in the field to perform data collection on and around campus.
This position requires prolonged standing and walking.
A valid driver’s license is recommended but not required.
