The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) is accepting applications for the September 11th Memorial Fellowship for Regional Transportation Planning. This fellowship offers graduate students attending school in the states of New York and New Jersey the opportunity to conduct practical research under the New York City Department of Transportation or the New York City Department of City Planning. Applications are due June 24th! The application can be quite lengthy, so it is recommend that students start it now.
Fellows receive a $35,000 stipend for the academic year and work on projects that support safe, sustainable, and equitable transportation systems. This year’s research proposals that selected Fellows can choose to work on include:
  1. Computer Vision Mobility Counting Prototype
  2. Cleaner Truck Refrigeration Units in NYC Communities
  3. Cargo Bike Regional Network Planning
  4. Vision Zero Street Improvement Projects
  5. Public Realm Programming
  6. Pedestrian Delay Reduction
  7. Mobility Management
  8. Investigating the Relationship Between Street Projects and Local Businesses
  9. Designing a Freight Policy Tool – Driving Data-Informed Planning for the Future of Freight
  10. Elevated Infrastructure & Public Waterfront Access
The program is open to graduate students with interests in transportation, urban planning, architecture, engineering, data, or public policy. It is a unique opportunity to gain experience in the public sector and contribute to the work that defines people’s mobility in the region.
