Overview

The South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as an intern for the summer. The ideal candidate would be a rising junior or senior studying urban planning or engineering. 

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to transportation studies and projects focused on a sustainable and resilient transportation system, regional trail development and mobility, human services transportation, freight movement, and local project development. 

The position will assist staff with data analysis, mapping, report development, and other project support tasks. This position offers a valuable opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding of transportation planning in a collaborative, professional environment. 

The position will report to each of the program managers under the transportation planning umbrella, gaining exposure to key focus areas, including: 

  • Regional Planning & System Performance – supporting long-range planning, human services transportation, and performance monitoring initiatives
  • Safety Initiatives & Complete Streets – assisting with data analysis and planning efforts to enhance safety and multimodal accessibility, including active transportation initiatives
  • Capital Programming & Project Development – contributing to the planning and coordination of transportation projects and allocation of funding resources.

The ability to start on June 16, 2025, is preferred, with seasonal employment through the Summer 2025 academic break.

Interns pursuing or holding a bachelor’s degree will be paid $17 per hour. Those who have or are pursuing a master’s degree will receive $20 per hour.
