Since the 1990s, NJ TRANSIT's Transit Friendly Planning (TFP) Program has worked with communities to encourage growth and development where public transportation already exists. NJ TRANSIT's network of passenger facilities (train stations, bus terminals, light rail stations, bus stops) are situated in a wide variety of settings throughout New Jersey, ranging from older downtowns to established suburban commuter towns and villages. Municipalities can create and implement community-based plans to guide growth in a comprehensive manner, especially in areas where the presence of transit can help stimulate new development opportunities.
