Overview

The Hudson County Division of Planning is seeking to hire a seasonal employee to assist with a variety of ongoing projects. The Division of Planning provides information and recommendations for the orderly and proper development of the County. The Division provides support and technical assistance to the Hudson County Planning Board, the Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund, the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy “CEDS” and conducts studies and makes recommendations regarding circulation, transportation, and environmental efforts within the county. The seasonal employee will perform basic research and writing and assist with various office tasks. The nature of the job will also include some field work as needed. The ideal candidate should be very familiar with Hudson County.

Essential Education/Experience Qualifications We’re Looking For:

·        Currently enrolled in a planning graduate program or possesses an undergraduate planning related degree

·        Experience with Microsoft Office

·        Knowledge of developing content for social media

·        Knowledgeable working with Census Data and other publicly available datasets

·        General understanding of land use and transportation in New Jersey

·        Hudson County Resident (strongly preferred)

Preferred Skills

·        A working understanding of planning principles

·        Excellent communication, time-management, and multi-tasking skills

·        Ability to research and write professional documents to be presented to Administrators and the Public

·        Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and supervisors

·        Ability to think creatively

·        Ability to work with Adobe Suite programs such as InDesign and Illustrator

·        Community involvement, engagement, and HC Planning marketing to the public.

Overview of Roles and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

·        Help staff in collecting and preparing data for planning projects

·        Maintains complete, accurate, and well-organized records at all times

·        Review and compile planning documents and various sources of data

·        Assist the Planning team at planning and community events

·        Take pictures of various site conditions and events in the field

·        Assist in the distribution and delivery of planning documents to various County departments and municipalities

·        Promotes and maintains positive and effective working relationships and promotes good public relationships as a representative of Hudson County Government

·        Conduct basic office functions as necessary, including filing and recordkeeping.

Hours, compensation, and additional details

·        Temporary position not to exceed 6 months

·        Up to 35 hours per week, all hours are in-office or community events.

·        Hourly pay of $20 of per hour

·        Office is located at 830 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City, NJ
